About - Patrick "Paddy" Shrimpton

My love for the sea began along the windswept cliffs of Robin Hood's Bay and in the northeastern fishing village of Whitby, whose charm fueled my childhood imagination. Growing up in a boarding school, we spent much of our time wandering the cliffs and beaches once trodden by the great adventurer Captain James Cook. Adding to that fascination, we often visited my grandmother in Cornwall, where towns like Fowey and Mevagissey were once havens for smugglers and pirates.

In her attic, she kept old logbooks from our great-great-grandfather, who owned a tea clipper that transported tea between England and China. He also ran a fine instrument business, crafting sail needles and medical tools. The logs were brimming with adventures, and the seafaring life was one I always knew I’d follow.
